Courtney Soekland has signed on with CSU Monterey Bay.
SEASIDE --- Courtney Soekland of Santa Rosa has signed a letter of intent to attend California State University Monterey Bay and compete on the women’s golf team, the school announced Tuesday.

Soekland is a graduating senior from Santa Rosa High School and has been her team’s MVP all four years. She was the North Bay League’s Player of the Year and the Redwood Empire Player of the Year. She averaged 2-over par her senior season finished her high school career with an individual record of 51 wins and four losses.

Last week she was honored by her hometown newspaper, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, as the Santa Rosa High School Scholar/Athlete of the Year. She also received The Berta Wiggins Memorial Golf Scholarship from the SRHS Foundation and the George Trederer Award for excellence in scholastics and athletics for her high school years. In addition to her golfing abilities, Soekland has been a four-year starter on the Santa Rosa High basketball team.

Soekland said she was recruited by many Division I schools: Brown, Yale, Arkansas and Sacramento State, as well as conference rivals Chico State and Sonoma State. She said she chose CSU Monterey Bay because of “the coaching staff, great location, awesome golf courses and the smaller size of the student population.”

“I am really looking forward to coming to the school and being a part of the team,” said Soekland.
