SEASIDE, Calif. – Head coach
Jody Garry has announced the schedule for the 2009 Cal State Monterey Bay women’s volleyball team. The Otters compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), one of the nation’s toughest NCAA Division II conferences that include the 2008 NCAA National runner-up Cal State San Bernardino.
CSUMB opens the season on Aug. 28, hosting the Otter Invitational and welcoming University of Findlay (OH) and Dixie State (UT).
The squad is then scheduled to compete in the 2009 California Clash hosted by Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, Calif. (Sept. 4-5). The Otters pair up against Hawai’i Pacific and Chaminade on Saturday, followed by a match-up against Dominican on Sunday morning. CSUMB then takes on NDNU in the spotlight match at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Kicking off a six-game homestand, the Otters open the CCAA season on Friday, Sept. 11 when they host the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus. CSUMB swept the Stanislaus series last year with a three-set shutout in Turlock on Oct. 10 followed by a 3-1 victory on Senior Night (Nov. 15) at the Otter Sport Center.
In the 2008 West Regional, six of the eight teams in the field were from the CCAA.
CSUMB will play a key match-up against rival San Francisco State on Friday, Sept. 16 on the Kelp Bed, the Otters home court.
When CSUMB welcomes Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 30 to the Otter Sports Center, the Otters will participate in a “Dig for the Cue” promotion in cooperation with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support Breast Cancer Awareness.
CSUMB returns six of its seven starters from last year, including starting outside hitter
Rheann Fall and starting libero
Dionna Lucas who were both freshman last year.
