SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a night of Gatorade Pong on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Otter Sports Center with all proceeds being donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
The event was part of Alcohol Awareness Week at CSUMB and raised over 600 dollars. The tournament was double-elimination featuring 64 teams consisting of two players.
"This is the most fun and hydrated I've been on campus this year." said
Danny Messina, a first year participant.
"Well, I had a lot of fun considering we lost, and that's saying something!" said
Tara Scheibeler, a member of the CSUMB women's water polo team.
SAAC first hosted the Gatorade Pong event last fall in the Otter Student Center as an alternative entertainment for students. It was sold out event and was moved to the Otter Sports Center in the spring for more room. The spring event was also a sold out event.
"G-Pong has been a great way for us to collaborate with the campus community and to promote alcohol awareness," said Stephanie Duke, CSUMB Associate Athletic Director. "This has been a fun and successful event for not only our student-athletes but our student population."
Bellagio Pizzeria, located at 404 Tyler Street in Monterey, donated pizza and Big Sur International Marathon supplied the Gatorade for the event.
