SEASIDE, Calif. –The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team participated in Make-A-Difference Day, the largest national day of community service, on Saturday, Oct. 27.

In the tradition of Otter Athletics, the squad assisted in the Beautification of Chinatown Project, located on Soledad Street in Salinas. The Otters painted buildings, cleaned up the streets, planted flowers and spread new mulch for the pathways of Chinatown.

“Serving our community on Soledad Street this past weekend was an extremely rewarding experience,” said senior Christina Vournas. “Not only did it open our eyes to parts of our community that needed our service but also hopefully opened many hearts towards the residents that call Soledad Street their home.”

“It was a great experience,” said senior captain Jackie Walters. “The people were wonderful to work alongside and we felt like we really made a difference.”

For more than 20 years, USA Weekend Magazine and Points of Light Volunteer Organization have joined together to sponsor Make A Difference Day.  Millions of volunteers around the world unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others.
