SAAC Sponsored Blood Drive Exceeds Goal In Units

Softball's Mariah Nisbet and many other student-athletes donated blood for the first time on Wednesday.

Wednesday's drive resulted in 85 registered donors and a total of 72 units of blood

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) found yet another way in helping the community by sponsoring a blood drive for Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the student center on CSUMB's campus.

SAAC joined Associated Students Environmental Affairs and CSUMB's Health Center as sponsors for the event.

The drive registered 85 donors and a total of 72 units of blood was collected.  These units will help save the lives of over 216 patients in need. SAAC succeeded its goal for the drive of 70 units of blood collected.

“We really appreciate CSUMB's dedication and commitment to blood donations,” said Carol Mazur, Administrative Assistant at the CHOMP Blood Center. “You are truly making a difference.”

“We wanted to make this the biggest blood drive ever on CSUMB's campus,” said Dylan Jackson, SAAC Co-President “It was great that we were able to make this happen and look to be apart of future blood drives on our campus.”

SAAC is a leadership group made up of representatives from each of the 12 CSUMB athletic teams. The group serves as a liason between the student-athlete population and the coaches, administration, CCAA conference and other related parties.
