SEASIDE, Calif. — A halftime deficit didn't last long for Cal State Monterey Bay.
Miye Kodama scored twice in the second half and
Juliana Dow added an insurance goal as the Otters rallied past Chaminade, 3-1, Thursday night at Cardinale Stadium.
The victory keeps CSUMB unbeaten through its first three matches, improving the Otters to 2-0-1 on the young season.
Monterey Bay controlled much of the opening half, outshooting Chaminade 12-3 and generating four corner kicks, but the Silverswords were the team that found the back of the net first.
Chaminade's Milan Cordone scored off an assist from Kenna Kiefer in the 43rd minute, sending the visitors into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
The Otters needed less than a minute after the restart to respond. Just 43 seconds into the second half,
Nika Louchard connected with Kodama, who buried the equalizer to make it 1-1. It marked Kodama's second goal of the season after she also scored in Sunday's 5-1 victory over Hawai'i Pacific.
CSUMB continued to push for the go-ahead goal and finally broke through again in the 71st minute. Kodama stepped to the penalty spot and converted for her second goal of the night, giving Monterey Bay its first lead at 2-1.
The brace marked the first multi-goal performance of Kodama's collegiate career and gave her three goals over the Otters' last two matches.
Dow put the match away less than six minutes later.
Ella Schug set up the goal in the 77th minute, with Dow finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season and extending the Monterey Bay advantage to 3-1.
The goal capped a productive night for Dow, who generated a match-high six shots and put four on frame.
Willow Baltazar once again went the distance in goal for the Otters, making three saves to earn her second victory of the season.
Jada Hardwick played all 90 minutes along the back line as CSUMB held Chaminade scoreless over the final 47 minutes.
Monterey Bay finished the night with an 18-10 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. The Otters also generated five corner kicks while conceding just one.
After opening the season with a scoreless draw against Western Washington, CSUMB has now won consecutive matches, scoring eight goals over those two victories.
The Otters remain at home to host Jessup for Senior Day on Saturday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
