CSUMB's Seth Pollack Attends FAR Fellows Institute

Seth Pollack has served as CSUMB's FAR for six years.

Pollack serves as the primary liaison between athletics and academics at CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Dr. Seth Pollack attended the FAR Fellows Institute at the NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis earlier this month.

In April, Pollack was chosen to be one of 24 Fellows for the Division II Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Institute. This Institute is held in October every other year, and brings together a small group of FARs from multiple Division II conferences for advanced training and professional development.  The FAR Fellows Institute featured an open discussion with NCAA President, Dr. Mark Emmert, and a review of recent data collected by the NCAA related to the student-athlete experience.

Pollack, a professor of Service Learning and Director of the Service Learning Institute at CSUMB, is in his sixth year as the FAR for CSUMB athletics.

Faculty involvement in athletics dates back as far as 1928, but the first meeting of these individuals was held in Nashville in 1985.  Each NCAA institution in all three divisions is required to have a FAR, who works as the primary liaison between athletics and academics at the institution.  The FAR reports directly to the President, and serves as Chair of the CSUMB Athletics Advisory Board.

The selection to the FAR Institute was prestigious for Pollack, as he was one of 24 individuals chosen from more than 300 Division II schools.
