Biography

2015 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Ryan Torres competed in all seven meets, capping his junior season in style with the 15th fastest 10K (34:32.83) in Otter history at the NCAA Division II West Regional on the Ash Creek Preserve Course in Salem, Ore. (Nov. 7)…opened the season with back–to–back 8K PRs at the UC Riverside Invitational (26:40.10) on Sept. 12 and at the Stanford Invitational (26:08.90) on Sept. 26…earned his best collegiate finish of 3rd place at the Sonoma State Invitational (Oct. 3).

2014 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Torres got off to a hot start as a sophomore by running the four fastest 8K times of his career in the first four races…PR came at the Bronco Invitational (Oct. 18) when he navigated the Baylands Park course in 25:33.10…best finish came a week later when he placed 33rd at the UCSD Triton Invitational (Oct. 25)…PRed at 10K with a 34:32.83 at the NCAA West Regional Championship.

2013 – Cal State Monterey Bay: Ryan Torres ran an excellent freshman campaign in which he steadily improved his times through all five regular season races…opened his collegiate career with a top 10 finish at the Crystal Springs Invitational…capped his regular season with an 8K PR of 26:50.80 on the Baylands Park course at the Bronco Invitational (Oct. 19)…ran a (then) 10K PR of 35:80.70 at the NCAA Division II West Regional (Nov. 9)…posted a 21:17.70 in his only 4–mile race at the Hornet Jamboree in Granite Regional Park (Sept. 14).

High School: Torres joined the Otters after an impressive career at Trans Valley League power Ripon High School…set the RHS 5K cross country record with a 16:32 at the 2011 CIF State Championship meet…also qualified for the CIF State Championship as an individual in 2012…undefeated individual TVL champion in 2011…led RHS to the 2011 TVL and CIF Sac–Joaquin Section Div. IV title…as a track and field athlete, he earned the Indians’ coaches award in 2011 and team MVP award in 2013.

Personal: Torres is majoring in kinesiology at CSUMB…career goal is to become a physical therapist… earned the Academic Achievement Award from the D2 Athletic Director’s Association and was a CCAA Scholar–Athlete Award winner as a sophomore and junior…is a member of the CSUMB Student–Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)…a four–year member of the honor roll at RHS…a California Scholarship Federation member and winner of the 2013 Lion’s Club and Quarterback Club scholarships…lists longboarding, snowboarding and volunteering among favorite activities…son of Rick and Lisa Torres.
