ROHNERT PARK Calif. – Sophomore #Andy Binol#'s goal with under four minutes left in regulation gave the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team a 2-2 tie in a match-up against No. 10 Sonoma State University this afternoon. Breaking a 20-game Seawolves conference winning-streak, the Otters earn their second point of the year in CCAA action (0-4-3, 0-2-2 CCAA). The Seawolves go to 7-1-1 (2-0-1 CCAA).
The game's first score came just five minutes in as Sonoma State's Ross Middlemiss lofted the ball in after receiving a feed from Ben Langwith.
That lead would stand until just three and half minutes before the break when junior #Grant Robson# headed in a free kick from junior #Kevin Amaral#.
The Seawolves once again took the lead at the 70th minute-mark when Middlemiss scored on a penalty kick.
Binol took advantage in a misplay by the Seawolves defense with time winding down, jumping on a clearance attempt and slotting it past the keeper.
Junior goalkeeper #Brenden Baca# was credited with six saves in the match.
“Another tremendous effort against a quality opponent,” said head coach
Artie Cairel. “I asked the players to believe and they are beginning to come together.”
CSUMB returns to the Otter Soccer Complex on Friday, Sept. 26 to host CCAA opponent Cal State Stanislaus. Kick-off is at 3:00 p.m.
