SEASIDE, Calif. – More than 100 student athletes participated in the 2nd Annual Campus Clean-Up Day on Saturday to kick-off Earth Week.
James Main, California State University, Monterey Bay Vice President for Administration and Finance, assisted in organizing the today's event. “Much appreciation to all the student-athletes for their participation,” Main said. “It was great to watch them have fun doing a good deed for their university in addition to everything else they give.”
Members of the men's and women's soccer team, men's basketball team, women's water polo team, baseball team and sailing team came out to pick up liter throughout the CSUMB campus.
“Today's campus clean-up efforts by CSUMB student-athletes, coaches and staff is another example of how proud we all are of our university and campus,” said Athletic Director
Vince Otoupal. “The effort today by the athletic department is something we are proud of.”
“We put forth a championship effort around the clean-up just like we do with our families, in the classroom and when we compete for CSUMB,” Otoupal said. “The campus is cleaner because of our efforts.”
Afterwards, the volunteers were invited to a free barbecue, catered by Sodexo, in the main quad.
