SEASIDE, Calif. – Sophomore #Rheann Fall# recorded a double-double as the Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team swept the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night at the Otter Sports Center. The final scores were 25-20, 25-23 and 25-10.
The Otter improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in CCAA play while the Warriors drop to 5-3 (1-0 CCAA).
Fall led the Otters with 17 kills, 10 digs and four aces with sophomore #Tiffaney Riggs# adding 10 kills. Junior #Dana Grimm# dished out 36 assists and senior #Katie Bos# notched 13 digs.
In the opening set, the Otters went on a 5-1 run capped by the blocking duo of Riggs and #Lauren Shacklock#. CSUMB held the lead until the Warriors rattled off six consecutive points to take a 15-13 lead. The Otters jumped back into control on a service ace by #Elizabeth Hanna#, forcing a Stanislaus time out at 17-16. The Warriors would tie it once again at 18-18 before CSUMB went on a 7-2 run to win the first set at 25-20.
The second set consisted of 15 ties and nine lead changes, but the Otters came out on top with a 25-22 win. Fall notched a set-high eight kills with Riggs and Hanna each racking up solo blocks.
The Otters never trailed in the third set, jumping out to a 5-0 after Riggs got the ball rolling on back-to-back kills from the middle. The Warriors answered with three straight points before CSUMB went on a terror to clinch the set 25-10. The Otters recorded a .450 hitting percentage with 13 kills while holding Stanislaus to only two kills in the final set.
As a team, the Otters tied a CSUMB school record for most aces in a match with 14.
The Otters return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 12, hosting Chico State at 7 p.m
