Bob Sevene Steps Down As CSUMB Cross Country Coach

March 5, 2010

SEASIDE, Calif. – Longtime coach #Bob Sevene# has decided to step down as Cal State Monterey Bay's head men's and women's cross country coach.  Sevene took over the program two years ago and the team has shown steady improvement since.

“It was an agonizing decision, but the right one,” Sevene said. “I feel these young student- athletes deserve someone with a little more time and energy to give.  When I started this journey with the athletes two years ago, the goal was to raise the bar of these two programs.  I believe we are well on our way, and I am proud of each and every individual that has run for me over these last two years.”

Sevene has been coaching for over 40 years in the college and post-collegiate arena.  While at CSUMB, he won the prestigious Browning Ross Award from USA Track and Field for lifetime coaching achievement.

“Coach Sevene has given so much to the sport and so much to his student-athletes his decision is understandable,” said CSUMB Director of Athletics #Vince Otoupal#.  “Bob has decided to step down as the CSUMB Head Coach, but I think he will always be coaching.  It's in his blood. He's a tremendous teacher and mentor.  We thank Coach for all his service, work, and dedication to CSUMB and our Cross Country student-athletes and the entire program.”

The search for the new CSUMB cross country coach will begin immediately.
