SEASIDE, Calif. – Baseball's catcher #Tyler Young# and #Olivia Lopez#, a middle hitter on the women's volleyball team, were named Distinguished Freshman by CSUMB's Center for Student Success for the 2009-10 academic year.
"Otter Athletics and CSUMB are proud of Olivia and Tyler,” said #Vince Otoupal#, CSUMB Director of Athletics. “Their work and accomplishments are a true testament to what we are continuing to build here at CSUMB Athletics. We are continuing to strive to be Champions in the Classroom and in our venue of competition. Olivia and Tyler prove with actions, not just with words, that we are on the right path to all kinds of victories. The Department of Athletics, along with Olivia and Tyler, thank the University for acknowledging the hard work of these two freshman student-athletes.”
Last night, Young and Lopez joined 12 other CSUMB students at a celebration dinner honoring the top 1 percent of all first-time freshmen who have an earned grade point average of 4.0 and have completed at least 12 grade units.
Young and Lopez each received a 1,000 scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year.
