West Region Bracket
SEASIDE, Calif. – It is official. The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team is heading to Hawaii for the NCAA Division II West Regional tournament this week. The Otters will face fifth seeded Hawaii-Hilo on Friday, May 14 at 2 p.m. PST.
CSUMB knocked off the Hawaii-Hilo, 4-1, on March 23 at the Otter Softball Field. The Otters were led by senior #Niki Ames#, who went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run. Junior #Diane Ortiz# threw a complete game, allowing only one run on three hits.
The Otters won CSUMB's first regular season with a 32-16 record after sweeping Cal State East Bay in the final weekend. CSUMB entered the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Otters dropped their first two games in the tournament.
Should the Otters knock off the Vulcans, they will advance to face the winner of No. 1 seed Hawaii Pacific, who is ranked 6th in the latest NCAA rankings, and No. 8 Central Washington Saturday at 2 p.m. PST. The two losing teams will take the field in an elimination game at 4:30 p.m. PST.
