Final Results
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – In their first NCAA Division II National Championship appearance, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team finished 11th among the top 20 teams in the nation. The Otters shot a 319 on the final day of competition for a four-round score of 90-over-par 1,242.
“This season was a success,” said head coach #Jason Owen#. “I told myself when I took the job just under two years ago I wanted to play for a national championship and we did just that. The future looks good for CSUMB.”
Junior #Scott Yeakel# and freshman #Dylan Jackson# tied for 30th with five other golfers after carding a 22-over-par 310 for the tournament.
Junior #Anthony Valdez# tied for 56th with a 29-over-par 317 and senior #John Jackson# followed with a tie for 58th place with a 30-over-par 318. Junior #Oskar Nystrom# rounded out the CSUMB golfers with a 31-over-par 319 finish and tied for 62nd place.
Florida Southern and Cyril Bouniol of Abilene Christian capture the team and individual honors, respectively, on the par-72, 7,173-yard Sagamore Golf Course.
“I didn't bring in any new players for next year because I believe that as this team gets smarter about golf, there are no limits,” Owen said. “I know this season just ended, but I am ready to get to work for next year. I see what needs to be done and I will fix it.”
*Note: #Dylan Jackson# was selected to the NCAA Division II All-Freshman team after an outstanding rookie season that consisted of seven top-20 finishes.
