2010 CSUMB Volleyball Schedule (pdf.)

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The 2010 Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball schedule features a home tournament and 22 conference matches in the ultra-competitive California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The team will host its annual home tournament September 3-4 before heading into the CCAA season. The Otters will face Colorado State Pueblo, Notre Dame de Namur and William Jessup in the 2010 Otter Classic.

CSUMB will begin CCAA play on the road, taking on four-time defending conference champion Cal State San Bernardino on Sept. 10. The Otters will open the home conference season with UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay on Sept. 17-18. Last season five of 12 conference teams advanced to the 64 team national tournament.

CSUMB's 2010 roster features All-CCAA second team junior outside hitter #Rheann Fall#.

“Rheann has set the bar for how well she needs to perform and I am excited to work with her again,” said head coach #Jody Garry#. “She is a very talented player who is extremely competent at all skills, has begun to master our specific training techniques, and has a very high volleyball IQ. She is an emerging leader and will definitely be someone to watch for this season.”

The Otters return senior #Dana Grimm# and redshirt sophomore #Monique Sena#, giving the team depth at the setter position.

“Dana and Monique are very talented and each give us something different. Dana brings a lot of energy to the court, knows our system in and out and has transformed herself over the last three years. Monique is a 'gamer,' has great instincts and is one of the best defenders on the team,” Garry said.

The Otters' six other upperclassmen include two seniors: outside hitter #Kami Ward#, and middle blocker #Melanie Lashbrook#.

“Kami is another player that brings a lot of energy and passion to the court. Her competiveness is a needed component for us. I look forward to working with her this year and seeing where she can best help our team,” Garry said. “Mel has been an integral part of our offense and defense (middle blocker) for the last two years. I predict this will be her best season statistically.”

The three juniors include: middle blocker #Tiffaney Riggs#, outside hitter #Lauren Shacklock# and defensive specialist #Dionna Lucas#. The sophomore class consists of outside hitter #Lauren Ding#, Sena and defensive specialist #Tori Taijeron#. Middle hitters #Olivia Lopez# and #Antoinette Anderson# joined outside hitter #Erin Stoddard# in red-shirting last season.

“The sophomore class is loaded with talent and athleticism. Lauren Ding was off to a great start as a freshman and played a considerable role in our offense and defense. She also made a huge commitment to our summer training, is easy off the ground and has very fast feet,” Garry said.

The incoming class includes freshmen Lacee Ventura, Molly Kennedy, Zoey Gamble and Lily Staight.

“They all have the ability to push our current team for a spot on the court,” Garry said. “They are a highly committed and solid group.”
