No. 11 LMU's Defense Holds Off Otters

The Lions earn 13-2 final decision over CSUMB. Sowul and Walters score one goal apiece for the Otters.

SEASIDE, Calif. - In the first CSUMB-LMU matchup at the Otter Tank, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team fell to the 11th-ranked Lions 13-2 in Friday's match.
 
Senior Nikki Smart started each quarter racing for the sprint for the Otters, winning 3-of-4.  After losing the sprint in the fourth quarter to LMU's Alexandra Honny, the Lions set up their half court offense for a few seconds before senior Katie Sowul stole the ball leading to the Otters first goal of the game by Jackie Walters.
 
CSUMB took 19 shots on goal throughout the game, rattling many key opportunities off the cross bar.
 
The Otters slowed the tempo of LMU's offense by keeping the Lions to four goals in the second half and scoreless in the fourth quarter.
 
Freshman goalie Amanda Jennings finished with six saves in two quarters of play.
 
The CSUMB water polo team will finish off the weekend at the NorCal Tournament in Berkeley, Calif. The Otters will take on Pomona-Pitzer at 12 p.m.  before competing in the final game of the day against host No. 2 Cal at 7:30 p.m.
