BOX SCORE

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team led for the final 28:15 of regulation, withstanding a late run to hold off Dominican (Calif.) University, 73–68, Saturday night in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB improved to 3–2 on the season. Dominican slipped to 2–2.

The Otters led by nine at the half (38–29) and led by as many as 12 midway through the second half before Dominican began chipping away, pulling to within one possession twice in the final 3:13. But junior guard Brandon Cole (Vallejo/Napa Valley College) had ice water in his veins down the stretch, making four consecutive free throws late to seal the win.

Geoff McIntosh's (Gig Harbor, Wash./N. Oklahoma) jumper in the lane gave CSUMB the lead for good at 24–22 12 minutes into the game before a Kris Gallop (Vallejo/Los Medanos College) alley–oop dunk from Cole capped a 13–2 run that gave the Otters their first double–digit lead at 36–25. It wasn't until the a Cole layup made the Otter lead to 58–46 inside nine minutes to play that the Penguins made their final rally.

A technical foul on CSUMB Head Coach Rob Bishop led to Jamell Clark making 1-of-2 free throws and Clark's perimeter jumper on the ensuing Dominican possession got the Penguins to within 67–66 with three minutes remaining.

But the Otter defense stiffened, getting stops on the next three Dominican possessions as CSUMB extended its lead from the line, easing away for the five–point win.

CSUMB spread the wealth with eight players scoring at least eight points and no Otter scoring more than the 14 contributed by senior Derrick Anderson (Pittsburg HS) and freshman Alex Fertig (Fresno/Buchanan HS). McIntosh and Cole also reach double figures with 10 points apiece. Senior center James Albert (San Bernardino/Aquinas HS) came off the bench to pull down a game–high nine rebounds.

Senior center Jacob Noisat led four Penguin scorers in double figures with 15 points. Devin Golston matched Albert for game–high honors with nine rebounds.

CSUMB will get its first taste of conference action Friday (Nov. 30) when it travels to face Sonoma State in the CCAA opener for both teams. The Otters return to The Kelp Bed to take on PacWest Conference foe Academy of Art Dec. 15.
