OAKLAND, Calif. — The elusive first road win continues to elude the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team after dropping a 74–69 decision at PacWest Conference foe Holy Names University Thursday night in Tobin Gym. The loss drops CSUMB to 3–5 on the season. HNU picks up its first win and is now 1–4.
CSUMB trailed almost the entire game but overcame a 14–point deficit with 14 minutes remaining to tie the game at 61–61 on a
Coley Apsay (Santa Clarita/Canyon HS) three–pointer nine minute later. The Otters took their first lead at 64–63 lead on a
Brandon Ward (Riverside/Woodcrest HS) free throw with 2:16 remaining.
Two turnovers and three missed three pointers on the ensuing three Otter possessions opened the door for HNU, however, and the Hawks took advantage with a 7–0 run to put the game on ice.
Freshman guard
Alex Fertig (Fresno/Buchanan HS) came off the bench to lead three Otters in double figures with 14 points. Apsay added 11 points and Ward chipped in 10 points and a game–high five assists.
Ian Collins led HNU with 21 points.
