SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay senior
Donny Medlinger (San Jose, Calif./San Jose CC) signed a free-agent contract with the
Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday. He will report to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick near Scottsdale, Ariz. on Thursday for extended spring training.
“We are all very proud of Donny as he takes this next step in his career,” said
Head Coach Walt White. “He is well deserving of an opportunity to pitch at the next level. He is going to a great organization and I know the DBacks are excited to have Donny join them. Donny is prepared and durable, and I know he will do well. Donny is a great representative of Otter Baseball and we look forward to future Otters joining Donny in the professional ranks.”
In his single season at CSUMB, Medlinger took over the responsibility of being the Otters ace on the mound. Medlinger's crowning moment came at Chico State when he struck out a season-best 10 batters to lead CSUMB to a 4-1 victory over the eventual World Series finalist.
Medlinger struck out 23 batters looking this season, moving him into the top position of the CSUMB record books.
Medlinger becomes the first player to sign a pro contract in White's tenure at CSUMB.
