Jessica Malcolm continued her strong run at the Otter Classic with a match-high 13 kills in Saturday's win over Dominican (NY) College.
SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball used full advantage of its deep, young roster as 13 Otters saw action in a 25-19, 25-12, 25-12, 25-17 win over Maryville University at the Otter Classic Saturday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.
Freshman outside hitter
Jessica Malcolm (Lodi HS) was the only player to reach double-figure kills putting down 13 against the Saints. She was one of seven Otters to post a kill in the match.
Malcolm also led all players with five blocks while junior
Rachel Freeno (Alta Loma HS) collected a match-high 15 digs splitting time between defensive specialist and libero.
Hana Michael led Maryville (0-4 overall) with eight kills. Hannah Seitter added 12 digs.
CSUMB (2-1) trailed just once in the match, falling behind 3-2 early in the third set. The Otter defense had much to do with that, holding Maryville to a .025 attack percentage.
The Otters will close play at the Otter Classic Saturday night at 7 p.m. with a key regional match against Great Northwest member Alaska-Anchorage.
