BOX SCORE

TURLOCK, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay Head Coach Renee Jimenez kept asking what would happen when her Otter offense started to play to the level their nationally–ranked defense. Saturday night, she found the answer.

CSUMB matched its season high with 11 three-pointers while holding its ninth opponent under 50 points to roll to a 70-44 win over Cal State Stanislaus in Fitzpatrick Arena.

The win increased CSUMB's (11-3, 8-3 CCAA) winning streak to a season-high five games as the Otters hit the midway point in the CCAA race. They trail conference leader Chico State by just one game in the loss column with 11 games remaining.

Senior guard Stefanie Corgel (Manhattan Beach/UCSB) scored all of her game-high 14 points in the first half. Junior forward Nikki Powell (Eureka/Foothill College) came off the bench to record her first double-double, finishing with season highs of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Rebecca Griffin (Santa Barbara/Ventura College) added the first double-digit scoring game of her career, tossing in 10 points in just 14 minutes.

Jimenez began substituting liberally early as all 14 Otters saw action before halftime. Thanks to an early 15-2 run, CSUMB quickly opened a double-digit lead that wouldn't be threatened. A late three-pointer by Corgel got the lead to 20, 35-15, by halftime. When Nikki Beckman (Dublin/Ohlone College) drained another three 36 seconds into the second half, the lead grew to more than 20 and would stay there for the duration.

CSUMB opens the second half of its CCAA schedule Friday when it will look to avenge and early season upset by hosting San Francisco State. The Otters will also host Sonoma State Saturday as part of their annual homecoming festivities.
