SEASIDE, Calif. -- After playing seven of their first eight games on the road -- including all five of its CCAA's contests -- the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team finally gets to enjoy some extended home cooking when it opens a four-game homestand Friday (Jan. 11) when perennial rival Cal Poly Pomona visits The Kelp Bed for a 5:30 p.m. tip.

The homestand also includes games against 2012 postseason qualifier Humboldt State (Jan. 12), 2012 CCAA Champion UC San Diego (Jan. 17) and Cal State San Bernardino (Jan. 19).

Otters fans can listen and watch all the action live online at www.OtterAthletics.com. Veteran play-by-play man Kevin Richardson will call all of the action live from courtside.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS: One of the perennial powers not just in the CCAA but in the nation, Cal Poly Pomona may finally had found some traction this season after beating defending conference champion UC San Diego as part of a weekend sweep last week. Those wins pushed the Broncos to .500 for just the second time this season. Junior forward J.J. Judge is one of the top players in the CCAA, averaging 17.3 points and 7.6 rebounds entering this week's action. Senior forward Ashley Boggs adds 12.1 ppg and a team–best 8.1 rpg.

WHEN LAST WE MET: The Otters completed a season sweep of then No. 22 Cal Poly with a 67–62 win in The Kelp Bed on Feb. 10, 2012. CSUMB raced to a 41–27 lead and never trailed in the second half en route to the win. Then junior guard Danielle Padilla (Salem, Ore./Chemeketa CC) came off the bench to lead CSUMB with 14 points. Sarah Semenero led three Broncos in double figures with 18.

WHEN LAST WE PLAYED: The Otters played the first triple overtime game in school history (read more below), and despite two miracles, came up on the short end of a 72–68 decision at Cal State L.A. Trailing by three with 3.8 second remaining, the Otters got the ball to Stefanie Corgel (Manhattan Beach/UCSB), who drilled a 30–foot three at the buzzer to force the first OT. Trailing by two with two seconds left at the end of the first overtime, Jessica Fontenette (Chino Hills/Bishop Amat) grabbed an offensive board off a missed free throw and laid it in to force the second OT. CSUMB got a season–high 13 points from Jessica Fontenette and a 10–point, 13–rebound double–double from Brittani Jefferson (Palmdale/Antelope Valley JC).

WORKING OVERTIME: Four seasons, four overtime games, four wins. That streak ended with Saturday's triple overtime loss at Cal State L.A. The Otters have played (and won) exactly one overtime game each season under Jimenez. Last season, the Otters came from behind late in regulation then finished off Sonoma State 64–59 in The Kelp Bed on Dec. 3, 2011.

It was the first triple–overtime game in CSUMB women's basketball history (the Otter men defeated Western Oregon 126–122 in four overtimes on Dec. 15, 2006). The Otters had won their previous two double–overtime games, downing the University of Mary 95–87 in 2008 and UCSD 92–91 in 2010.

BACK–TO–BACK DOUBLE–DOUBLES: Junior forward Ashley Morgan (Rohnert Park/Santa Rosa CC) and Brittani Jefferson each posted double–doubles last weekend, with Morgan going for 10 points and 10 rebounds at Dominguez Hills and Jefferson getting 10 and 13 at CSULA. It marks just the third time in four seasons two different Otters have posted consecutive double–doubles. The last two to do it were Jefferson (14 & 10 at SFSU on Jan. 5, 2012) and Shonetta Crain–Williams (14 & 12 at Cal Poly Pomona on Jan. 7, 2012).

In case you're wondering, the last time two Otters posted double–doubles in the same game came on Feb. 18, 2011 when Holly Holcomb (Ventura/Buena HS) had 10 & 10 and Julie Heurung had 20 & 10 in a 62–45 win over Sonoma State on Feb. 18, 2011.

A MISLEADING RECORD: While Cal State L.A. did touch up the Otter defense for an opponent season–high 72 points, credit that total to the three overtimes and not the Golden Eagle scoring prowess. The Otters held CSULA to 45 points in regulation, 53 points through the first overtime and 63 points through the second overtime.

MUNSCH–ING ON THE URBAN KNIGHTS: Senior forward Gabby Munsch (Lodi/Cal State San Marcos) hit 10–of–14 from the field to match her career high with 21 points in CSUMB's Dec. 5 win over Academy of Art. It was CSUMB's first 20–point game of the season and its first since Stefanie Corgel (Manhattan Beach/UCSB) dropped 20 on Cal State L.A. on Dec. 18, 2011.

SHOOTING THE LIGHTS OUT: Thanks in large part to Gabby Munsch's hot night the Otters shot a sizzling 59.3 percent (32-of-54) from the field against Academy of Art. It was the third–best shooting night in CSUMB history.

BIZZARO OTTERS: Just like the Bizzaro world of the Superman universe (where black is white, up is down… ), credit Friday's win at Dominguez Hills to the Bizzaro Otters. CSUMB won by scoring a season–high 78 points (16.2 points above its season average entering the game) while allowing a season–high 66 points (16.8 points above its season average).

70 IS THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING: With apologies to Douglas Adams, the answer to everything isn't 42, it's 70. The Otters have won 26 consecutive games when scoring at least 70 points, a streak they continued with their 78–66 win at Dominguez Hills on Jan. 4. In fact, CSUMB is 27–1 all–time when scoring 70 or more points under Renee Jimenez. The lone loss, you ask? An 85–79 loss to Cal State Stanislaus on Dec. 6, 2008.

WHY PLAY 40 MINUTES? Second halves have become all but irrelevant when the Otters lead at intermission under Renee Jimenez. CSUMB has won 60 of its last 62 regular season games in which it has led at halftime. In fact, under Jimenez, the Otters have a 66–3 all–time regular season record when leading at intermission. Humboldt State broke the Otters' 52–game win streak in such situations by overcoming a 32–31 on deficit Feb. 4, 2012 to win 65–51. CSUMB was 18–1 when leading at halftime last season.

A THIEF IN THE NIGHT: Jessica Fontenette is closing in on the CSUMB career steals record of 133 held by Dana Andrews (2006–09). Fontenette enters the Cal Poly Pomona game with 131 steals, good for the No. 2 spot on the CSUMB list. Holly Holcomb currently ranks No. 8 on the list with 80.

ANOTHER 20–WIN SEASON, ANOTHER TITLE: The Otters secured a second consecutive 20–win season and a second consecutive championship banner with last season's run through the CCAA Tournament. They are the first two of each in CSUMB women's basketball history.

THAT GIRL GIVES A HAND: Jessica Fontenette matched her personal best with seven assists in the win over Academy of Art. That mark ties for the No. 8 spot in the CSUMB record book. Fontenette now has 154 career assists moving her one ahead of Dana Andrews for No. 4 on that list. Alma Lopez set the CSUMB standard with 206 assists from 2007–08.

Individually, Fontenette ranks No. 2 in the CCAA and No. 38 nationally in steals by averaging 2.88 steals per game.

THE DEFENSE NEVER RESTS: Otter success in the Renee Jimenez era begins with defense. The 2011–12 Otters allowed just 59.6 points per game, marking the third consecutive season they allowed fewer than 60.0 points per game. The Otters enter the week allowing 54.1 ppg, good for No. 16 in the nation among NCAA Division II schools.

BALANCING ACT: While defense remains the forté, the Otter offense found success by doing an insane balancing act once again in 2011–12. CSUMB's top six scorers averaged between 9.8 and 7.6 points per game, marking the second consecutive season that an Otter championship team did not feature a player who averaged in double figures.

OTTERS WEARING RED? While not traditionally a CSUMB color, red will be the color for five Otters who will redshirt the 2012–13 season: Two of the redshirts will be returning players: Senior guard Danielle Padilla and sophomore forward Mykayla Harris. They will be joined on the redshirt list by junior wing Kayla Patton and freshman guards Victoria Dorn and Tyvette White.
