SEASIDE, Calif. — On the road, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team is the top perimeter shooting teams in the CCAA. At home, it decidedly is not.

For the second consecutive game, the Otters struggled mightily from 3–point range to the effect of a 74–70 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday night in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB (2–3, 0–2 CCAA) went just 3–of–18 from beyond the arc before making three of its final four attempts in the final 37 seconds of regulation. Including their two exhibition games against NCAA Division I opponents, the Otters are shooting 46.2 percent (36–of–78) from 3–point range on the road but just 25.9 percent (14–of–54) at home.

CSUDH, on the other hand got four treys on seven attempts out of Givon Crump, who entered the night a less–than–stellar 10–of–34 (29 percent) from long range. Thanks in large part to that effort, Crump led all scorers with 22 points.

There were several positives to take from the game, including a season–low 12 turnovers and 15 offensive rebounds. On the individual stat sheet, sophomore Alex Fertig (Fresno/Buchanan HS) led the way with 18 points and six rebounds. For the first time all season, junior swingman Ryan Nitz (Rancho Cucamonga/Chaffey College) did not lead the Otters in scoring as he finished with 17 points.

Despite its frigid shooting, the Otters forged a 36–34 halftime lead. A Tim Darkwa (Rialto/Bloomington Christian) layup gave them their final lead at 48–46 nine minutes into the second half.

But a Darnell Martin dunk and a Pierson Williams 3–pointer put the Toros back on top at 51–48. The Otters would score just two points over the ensuing seven minutes as CSUDH built its lead to a game–high 63–52. CSUMB couldn't get closer than four points the rest of the way.

The Otters will take a week off before returning to action Dec. 14 at Cal State East Bay. CSUMB returns to The Kelp Bed to host East Bay on Dec. 21.
