Derrick Anderson lays in two of his team-high 10 points past SFSU’s Decensae White Friday night.
BOX SCORE
SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay's four–game homestand got off to a rough start as San Francisco State visited The Kelp Bed to hand the Otters a 76–52 setback Friday night.
Calvin Otiono sank three three–pointers as part of his game–high 19 points to lead SFSU (10–7, 8–5 CCAA). Senior forward
Derrick Anderson (Pittsburg HS) came off the bench to lead CSUMB (8–12, 4–9) with 10 points and a game–high eight rebounds.
The game was a ragged affair with the teams combining for 41 turnovers, including 23 for the Gators. But SFSU used its length and athleticism to hold the Otters to 35 percent shooting from the field while building a 42–29 rebounding edge, the largest against the Otters this season.
SFSU raced to a 10–point lead at 16–6 before the game was seven minutes old. A pair of Anderson free throws got CSUMB back to within seven at 24–17 before the Gators finished the half with a gentle 12–6 run to take a 13–point lead into the lockerroom.
A Winston Demmin jumper on the first possession of the second half got the Gator lead back to 15 and the Otters never got closer.
CSUMB will look to shake off Friday result when it hosts Sonoma State Saturday for its annual homecoming game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. as the nightcap of men's/women's doubleheader action.
GO OTTERS!
