Kris Gallop missed his career scoring high by one point, finishing with 11 points (and nine rebounds) Friday night vs. Cal State L.A.
BOX SCORE
SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team put up a tough fight Friday night, but Cal State L.A.'s superior length an athleticism proved a lethal combination as the Golden Eagles parried several late CSUMB rallies to win 60–50 in The Kelp Bed.
Though CSULA (11-8, 8-7 CCAA) never trailed, it never led by more than 11 either as CSUMB (8-14, 4-11) kept clawing its way back only to see the Golden Eagles successfully parry each comeback attempt.
Kris Gallop (Vallejo/Los Medanos College) and
Kevin Loustale (Chico/Shasta College) led the Otters with 10 points apiece. Gallop also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
James Tillman led four Golden Eagles in double figures with 19 points.
CSUMB's last best chance came after a Loustale jumper pulled the Otters to within 56–50 inside the final 50 seconds.
Dammond Rogers (Los Angeles/Inglewood HS) and
Derrick Anderson (Pittsburg HS) swarmed Joshua Munzon on the inbounds play, with Rogers coming up with the steal. But Munzon recovered, thwarting the Otter 2-on-1 and taking the ball back from Rogers to all but seal the win.
The Otters will try to bounce back into the win column when they conclude their four-game homestand by hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in The Kelp Bed.
GO OTTERS!
