BOX SCORE
SEASIDE, Calif. -- Sure, Friday afternoon's volleyball match against Dominican University was the season opener, but for Cal State Monterey Bay junior outside hitter Julia Ashen (North Salinas HS), it played like a continuation of her record-breaking sophomore campaign.

Ashen, who set the CSUMB record with 426 kills in 2012, came out on fire, leading all players with 24 kills, 18 digs, five blocks and four aces in a 25-14, 25-16, 22-25, 25-14 win in match two of the Otter Volleyball Classic in The Kelp Bed.

The Otters came into Friday's match a bit nicked up, with several key players either out or limited due to injury. But Ashen and and sophomore middle blocker Victoria Clardy (Westminster/Marina HS) added 11 kills and five blocks of her own to help the Otters overcome their losses.

Jessica Jones led Dominican with eight kills while libero Sari Kwan matched Ashen's match-leading 18 digs.

CSUMB continues play at the Otter Classic by hosting Cal Baptist at 7 p.m. Dominican concludes Day 1 action when it meets Saint Martin's University at 3 p.m.
