Lindsey Clarkson is Pitcher of the Year, Cori Reinhardt named Player of the Year

SEASIDE, Calif. — Fresh off of leading the No. 3 Cal State Monterey Bay softball  team to its first–ever trip to the NCAA Super Regionals, sophomore Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) and junior Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) took top honors on the Daktronics All–West Region Softball team.

Clarkson, who tossed a 2–1 victory over No. 21 Cal Baptist in the NCAA West Region I title game Saturday, was tabbed the region's Pitcher of the Year while Reinhardt, who won the first two games of the regional while also hitting .417 with a pair of home runs in four tournament games, took the Player of the Year Award.

Joining Clarkson and Reinhardt on the first team were Otter teammates freshman first baseman Madison Casto (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS) and sophomore designated player Bianca Noriega (Ventura/Camarillo HS).

Clarkson enters this weekend's Super Regional at Dixie State with a 25–3 record and a 1.72 ERA. She also set a school record this season with 10 shutouts so far in 2014. Both she and Reinhardt enter the week with 136 strikeouts, just 10 off the school record of 146 set by Jessica Boyle in 2007.

For her part, Reinhardt is 21–7 in the circle with a 2.07 ERA and a .194 batting average against. But she earned player of the year honors for her versatility. She also played first base, second base, third base, shortstop and left field in 2014, compiling a .335 batting average with 14 extra base hits, five home runs, 35 RBIs and an OPS of .914.

Casto was the only freshman selected to the first team. She enters the Super Regional hitting .376 with 14 doubles and a .938 OPS. She has handled 453 chances, good for the No. 2 spot on the CSUMB single season list, and posts a .989 fielding average.

Noriega enters the week leading CSUMB  in most offensive categories. She tops the team in batting average (.436), OPS (1.170), hits (78), doubles (24,) home runs (6) and RBIs (51). Her 78 hits and 24 double are both Otter season records.

All four Otters will advance to the national ballot for All–America consideration. The Daktronics NCAA Division II Softball All–America teams will be announced on May 21.
