TURLOCK, Calif. — Greg Anderson (Murietta/Palomar College) left an indelible mark in his final collegiate game, pouring in a career-high 32 points to almost single-handedly keep the the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team in contention in an 84-78 loss to Cal State Stanislaus Saturday night in Fitzpatrick Arena.
Anderson's 32 points are the most by an Otter since Davion Berry scored 34 at Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2011. Anderson had 10 of CSUMB's first 12 points and 17 in the first 20 minutes to keep Stanislaus from pulling away.
The Warriors used a 13-0 run midway through the opening period to take the lead for good, but thanks to Anderson—as well as some timely 3-point shooting from
Evan Zeller (Mission Viejo HS) and
Patrick Lefiti (Bay Point/Los Medanos College)—the Otters gave themselves a chance to comeback until the final seconds.
CSUMB rallied in the second half, drawing as close as 60-59 on a Lefiti trey nine minutes after the restart. They were within five with three minutes to play and within four inside the final 30 seconds before a late Rob Walters layup sealed the deal for the Warriors.
In addition to Anderson, Zeller finished with 13 points and
Alex Fertig (Fresno/Buchanan HS) added 11. Lefiti chipped in nine points and five assists.
CSUMB finishes the season at 13-15 overall and 9-13 in the CCAA. It's the third consecutive season in which the Otters have improved their finish under Head Coach
Rob Bishop. The Otters return all but two players and will welcome back 2014 All-CCAA selection
Ryan Nitz from an injury redshirt in 2015-16.
GO OTTERS!
