SEASIDE, Calif. — With a nod to Monty Python, the number for the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team shall be three. No more. No less.

After taking three of four games at Cal State East Bay last week, the Otters check in a No. 3 in this week's NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 for the third consecutive week. CSUMB has been ranked in the Top 25 for 17 consecutive polls dating back to last season. It has appeared in the Top 20 in the last 13 of those polls.

The Otters are getting it done in all phases of the game. They lead the CCAA in hitting (.376) by 36 points and runs per game (7.1) by more than a full run per game. They've recorded double–digit runs six times and have won via the run–rule eight times in 21 games.

In other metrics, CSUMB leads the CCAA in fielding percentage (.981) and shutouts (6) and rank No. 2 in the CCAA ERA (2.13).

CSUMB is the highest ranked team from both the CCAA and the West Region this week. The West features three other Top 25 teams this week: No. 7 Dixie State (17–5), No. 17 Cal Baptist (20–4) and No. 24 Sonoma State (17–4). Humboldt State (13–8) and UCSD (16–8) are receiving votes.

Not included is this week's ranking was Tuesday's 11–0, 8–2 sweep of Dominican University. The Otters (18–3, 9–3) will continue their 6–game homestand this weekend by hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills for a 4–game set Friday and Saturday. The Toros (10–9, 8–4 CCAA) enter the weekend winners of seven in a row and one game behind the Otters in the CCAA standings.
