SAN DIEGO — Not much went right for the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team Saturday night as a glacial start on both ends of the floor led to a 76–61 loss at Point Loma University in Golden Gym.
CSUMB fell behind by as many as 18 points in the first half and trailed by 16 (43–27) at intermission. The Otters got within single digits three times in the second half, the closest at 66–59 with 3:20 remaining, before Point Loma pulled away in the final two minutes.
Freshman
Kevin Warren (Oakland/St. Mary's HS) came off the bench to lead the Otters with a team season–high 22 points. Sophomore
Gregg Polosky (San Ramon Valley HS) tied his own school record with six blocks.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Kevin Warren's layup rolled off the rim and PLU's Zach Burnham grabbed the rebound with the Sea Lions leading 73–61 and 1:02 remaining.
CHIP OFF THE OLD THE BLOCK… Gregg Polosky tied his own CSUMB record by blocking six shots Saturday at Point Loma. Polosky first blocked six shots against Saint Martin's University on Nov. 21, 2015. That tied the mark first established by Andy Cannon at Cal State Hayward on Jan. 22, 2002.
SECOND HALF DOESN'T MAKE A WHOLE… The Otters didn't win the game, but for the fourth time in four outings, the Otters did win the second half Saturday night in San Diego. They are out–scoring their opponents 160–143 in the second half of games this season.

THE LAST WORD… "We didn't match their physical play to start the game. They have some big fellas on that team and they punished us. I thought we battled in the second, but again, we can't dig that big of a hole to start games." –
CSUMB Head Coach Rob Bishop
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters return to action with a Black Friday (Nov. 25) game against Dominican University in The Kelp Bed. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Admission will be free for all fans.
