OTTERS vs. PENGUINS HIGHLIGHTS
SEASIDE, Calif. — For one night at least, Cal State Monterey Bay proved which is the most lethal adorable aquatic predator as the Otter men's basketball team took a thrilling 73–72 victory from the Penguins of Dominican University Friday in The Kelp Bed.
Dominican fought its way back from a 16–point deficit in the second half to grab a 72–71 lead with 1:04 remaining on three Reverend Maduakor free throws. But CSUMB freshman guard
Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) replied with a short jumper 18 seconds later for what proved to be the night's final points.
Johnson led the Otters with 16 points.
Julien Ducree (Rancho Cucamonga HS) just missed his second double–double of the season, finishing with 12 points and a game–high nine rebounds.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Jonquis Bouyea (Seaside HS) pulled down a wild layup attempt from Reverend Maduakor with one second remaining. Bouyea escaped the scrum before Dominican could foul him.
CARTER THE STARTER… Freshman shooting guard
Carter Johnson (Arcata/St. Bernard's HS) made his first collegiate start Friday night. He knocked down a 3–pointer and passed two assists in nine minutes of action.
WELCOME BACK ISAIAH… Junior forward
Isaiah Smith (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) made his first appearance in more than a year. He not only started but scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots in 24 minutes.
