SEASIDE, Calif. —
Victoria Dorn (Marina, Calif.) stole the show as the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team was unable to complete an epic comeback on Friday night's CCAA opener against Cal State East Bay.
Dorn completed a career night with career high's in points (25), rebounds (6) and blocks (2). Twenty-one of Dorn's 25 points came from three point land as she sunk seven three pointers, tying an MB record.
The Otters got out to a hot start, out scoring East Bay 20-11. However, the Pioneers answered right back with a 20-point quarter of their own, netting 26 in the second to take a 37-30 lead at half. Cal State Monterey Bay was unable to close the gap trailing by as many as 14. CSUMB did get within two on none other than a Dorn three pointer, but clutch free throws by East Bay down the stretch put the game away, leading to a 68-62 Pioneer win.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… The Otters closed in on a comeback after being down 14 in the third by getting the game to within two points with 27 seconds left in the game. However, four consecutive free throws for Cal State East Bay put the game away.
MAKING IT RAIN: Victoria Dorn etched her name in the CSUMB record books with seven three pointers. That mark ties Dana Andrews who hit that milestone twice during the 2007-08 season.
ON THE BLOCK: Despite her 5-6 frame, Dorn notched a career-high in blocks with two on Friday night against Cal State East Bay
ON THE BOARDS: Keeping with the theme, Dorn's six rebounds were a career-high as well
LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Dorn -- 25; REBOUNDS: Dorn -- 6; ASSISTS:
Aubri Smith (Ventura, Calif.) -- 5; BLOCKS: Dorn,
Courtney Keaton (Los Angeles, Calif.) -- 2; STEALS: Smith -- 3.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… Cal State Monterey Bay will close out a back-to-back when it battles Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday (Dec. 3). Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Kelp Bed
GO OTTERS!
