OTTERS vs. GOLDEN EAGLE HIGHLIGHTSSEASIDE, Calif. — The Kelp Bed continues to be the friendly confines for the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team, which earned its sixth consecutive home win with a 71–59 victory over Cal State L.A. Friday night.
The win keeps CSUMB (12–12, 10–8 CCAA) alive in its quest for a top four seed and a home CCAA Tournament game. Cal State L.A. (7–17, 6–11) is still hanging on to the No. 8 seed despite Friday's loss.
The Golden Eagles scored the first six points of the game, but the Otters quickly erased that deficit with a 17–2 run that gave them early control. CSUMB followed that spurt with an 11–3 run that put it up 28–13 midway through the half. L.A. never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Senior swingman
Ryan Nitz (Rancho Cucamonga HS) led the Otters with his third double–double of the season, adding 11 rebounds to his team–leading 24 points. It marked the 12th time this season Nitz went over 20 points in a game.
Senior guard
Alex Fertig (Fresno/Buchanan HS) had another nice game with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He chipped in five rebounds and three assists.
CSUMB plays its final regular season home game Saturday night when former Otter player Steve Becker brings his Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros to The Kelp Bed for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
GO OTTERS!
