SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A tough shooting night doomed the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team as the Otters began a 2–game roadtrip with a 73-53 loss to Cal State San Bernardino Thursday night in Coussoulis Arena.
The Otters got a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double from forward
Alexa Sperling (Clovis/Buchanan HS), the first double-double of her collegiate career. Both totals were season highs for the freshman.
Jenna Bandy (Thousand Oaks HS) added 13 points while
Nikki Beckman (Dublin/Ohlone College) dished a season-high six assists.
San Bernardino gained separation early in this one, opening its first double-digit lead at 26-15 midway through the first half. The Otters cut the deficit to 42-34 early in the second half and had four possession to get closer but couldn't. The Coyotes responded with a 12-3 run that turned a 42-34 lead into at 54-37 advantage the Otters wouldn't challenge down the stretch.
The Otters will head to the other end of California to take on CCAA-leading Humboldt State Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CSUMB returns to The Kelp Bed to host Cal State Stanislaus Jan. 23.
