SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay seniors
Jenna Bandy (Thousand Oaks HS) and
Nikki Beckman (Dublin HS) played their final collegiate home games, coincidentally enough, by facing the coach who brought them to the Seaside campus all those years ago. Renee Jimenez brought her Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes to town Saturday night and saw her former charges acquit themselves well in their Kelp Bed swan songs.
Bandy led the Otters with 19 points and Beckman passed a team–high four assists, but it wasn't enough to stop postseason–bound San Bernardino from taking an 81–56 decision.
The Coyotes were on fire early, making five of their first seven 3-point attempts en route to shooting a remarkable 67 percent (18-of-27) from the field in the first half. That allowed them to build a 46-27 halftime lead that the Otters couldn't challenge.
For her part, Bandy surpassed another milestone. Her 19 points brought her career total to 638, moving her past Brittani Jefferson (627) into the No. 4 spot on the Otter career scoring list. She needs 31 points in her final two games next week to catch former teammate
Holly Holcomb for the No. 3 spot.
Beckman also inched closer to a career milestone. Her four helpers lifted her career total to 169. She needs just three more to catch Andrea Hanshew (172) for the No. 4 spot on that list.
CSUMB closes its 2014-15 season on the road next weekend, beginning Friday night at Chico State. They'll play their final game the following night at Cal State Stanislaus.
GO OTTERS!
