CHICO, Calif. — A huge comeback by the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team went for naught as Chico State hit a 3–pointer with 1.9 seconds remaining to hold off the Otters 69–66 Friday night in Acker Gym.
CSUMB got a career–high 25 points from sophomore
McKenna Hill (Ventura/St. Bonaventure HS) and 19 from senior guard
Jenna Bandy (Thousand Oaks HS). The duo rallied the Otters from 19 points down in the second half to tie the game in the final minute.
After falling behind 50–31, the Otters chipped away at the Wildcat lead but couldn't quite catch them until a 19–9 run beginning with 7:28 remaining finally did the trick. Bandy scored nine points in that stretch, but it was sophomore
Victoria Dorn (Marina/Seaside HS) who hit the big shot, knocking down a three with 31 seconds to play that tied the game at 66.
Chico held for the last shot and Whitney Branham made the strategy pay when she hit a three of her own from the left wing with 1.9 seconds left in regulation. The Otters called timeout to set up a desperation play to send the game to overtime but couldn't get a shot off.
CSUMB will close its 2014-15 season Saturday with a trip down Highway 99 to take on Cal State Stanislaus..
GO OTTERS!
